Eduserv research grants

Eduserv has been providing grants for research projects since 2004.

As part of the transition from the Eduserv Foundation to the Eduserv Research Programme we no longer provide a major annual call for research projects in the way we have done previously. There are a number of reasons for this but the most important is that we want to focus our activities more firmly on developing new and existing charitable services for the community.

We do not feel that an annual grant call is the most effective way to do this (not least because the call was never designed with this in mind). Instead, the Research Programme will use a mix of activities (including small-scale funding and collaborative research activities) to improve our approach to technology and the shared services we offer, and to increase understanding about the effective use of ICT among the relevant sections of the academic community.

Projects which were funded as a a result of annual calls include:

• The projects funded in 2008 were about digital identity
• The projects funded in 2007 each included research into 3-D virtual worlds
• The projects funded in 2006 were on the themes of authentication and learning objects
• The projects funded in 2005 included a digital library of medieval music and learning objects for health sciences
• The projects funded in 2004 were based around the themes of eLearning and accessibility
